Class Chef

(I started out posting small pictures but then changed my mind. I hope you can see all the cuteness!)

Lets Eat!

Chef Pace helping her table with the pancakes.
Chef Steele getting the kids started and going over the recipe.
We had our first cooking experience with our Class Chefs - Chef Jobe, Chef Pace and Chef Steele. The kids got to hear the story If You Give a Pig a Pancake......and then they got to make pancakes! It was so fun and the kids were so cute! The cooking and eating took up most of the time but we were able to do a quick pig puppet to take home.
Don't those look yummy?
There was a secret ingredient.
You'll have to ask your kiddo for the secret!

Now it's Eating Time!

Yummy, Yummy in my Tummy!

Lip Smackin' Good!
Hey, did you eat my pancake?

Now It's Crafting Time
The fun just doesn't stop once we are done eating. We then made our Pink Pig Puppets. The kids had to cut and glue and color. isn't that what Kindergarten is all about. Hopefully a little piggy made it home with them and they were able to enjoy their day!

New Songs!!!

Are your kids singing these fun songs all the time? Mine is!! She loves singing and spelling at the same time. Now you have the words to sing along. Your little one will think you are so cool knowing the same songs as him/her. (well hopefully!)

Pink
(To the tune of jingle bells)
Cotton candy, fat pink pigs, girls with socks and bows
p-i-n-k-, p-i-n-k that is how it goes
bubble gum, Valentines, these are all pink too
pink icing and pink balloons
I can spell, can you?

Seven
(To the tune of If You're Happy and You Know It)
s-e-v-e-n spells seven
s-e-v-e-n spells seven
seven airplanes in the sky,
seven boats are floating by
let's all shout hip hip hooray for number seven
s-e-v-e-n spells seven
s-e-v-e-n spells seven
seven cars race on the track
seven trucks with heavy stacks
let's all shout hip hip hooray for number seven

We are planning our first field trip to Superstition Farm for early November. This trip will tie-in to next month’s planting/harvesting theme. The cost of field trips was discussed at Curriculum Night in August. There are two ways you can pay for your child’s field trips. The first option is to make a tax credit donation of $50.00 now, which will cover all of the field trips for the year. (There will be approximately four.) You will get all of this money back when you file your taxes. What a deal! To make a tax credit donation, simply drop off a check to Patsy in the office along with your Tax Credit form (attached). Or, you can go to the Gilbert Public Schools website at www.gilbert.k12.az.us. Click on “Our Schools” on the blue bar. Then click on “Tax Credit”. Designate the funds to Spectrum Elementary Kindergarten. When you complete your donation you can print out the confirmation for your records. Families are allowed to donate up to $400.00 in tax credit donations per year, all of which will be refunded at tax time. If you decide to make a tax credit donation for the $50 or more, please remember to designate ’Spectrum Kindergarten’.

The other option is to pay for each field trip as they come. (About $15 per trip). As we get closer to our departure I will send out more information and permission slips.

This Friday we will be doing various math, art, and reading activities in honor of Johnny Appleseed Day. We are in need of apples of all kinds. We would appreciate a donation of one or two apples per child. Any kind is fine.

Good Afternoon

This is one of the first things the kids do when they get to class. They go around the circle and take turns saying Good Afternoon! to each other. I thought this was a great way for the kids to learn every ones name - and make a new friend!

Can you believe our kids are sitting so well behaved! - Only when Mom's not around. Ü

The Flanagan Forum

September 8th, 2008

This week we will be talking about what ‘history’ means. We will discuss the ways the kinders have changed from baby to child, and talk about memories. I am sending home a picture envelope today. Please fill the envelope with photos (can be prints on regular paper too) of your child and family. The kids will be using these to make time lines of their ‘history’.
The kinders have been hard at work writing in their Writing Notebooks. We write in our notebooks almost daily and I am already beginning to see longer and more detailed entries. How fun it will be to read these books at the end of the year!
Our second book order is being sent home in your child’s homework folder today. Please return order form and check by Friday, September 19th.
